Volunteer: Good Samaritan Society –Hastings Village diner

It’s just a little cafe. We’re here
Monday through Saturday to serve breakfast and lunch. Most of the people
that work here are volunteers that helps us keep the prices down. Customer: The waitresses
are fantastic. I retired a year ago this last May in Texas as a dietary supervisor and food is in my blood. (Laughs) They are so friendly. Willa: I’m a person all
my life would be working, been doing things and I just couldn’t sit at home
and do nothing so this keeps me active. Eunice: A lot of the customers come every day. We have people that live out here but we also have a lot of people that live in
town that come. Jimmie: You can’t how to crank up your stove and buy food and get it for six bucks like you can here and then plus she don’t have to do dishes. (laughs) Sometimes we even get two waitresses!
(laughs) It’s just fun, its like family. It’s incredible (sorry) that they
have such good work ethics. They don’t wanna call in sick it’s really
incredible the loyalty that they have. Willa: I’ve been around elderly people a lot
in a hospital and in the assisted living and they need to have friendly people
they need to have food. Willa to Tammy: Bob said the goulash was really good! they need to know that people love them and like them. It’s hard to get old I didn’t think I
ever would and I’m not yet. (laughs)
