[MUSIC PLAYING] DR MICHAEL USLAN: For thousands
of years tales of brave warriors battling demons have taken root in
the world’s folklore and mythologies. Their stories still exist today, only
now they’re wearing capes and cowls, and battling the demons and
dragons of today’s world. They’re the superheroes
of our comic books and graphic novel, the stars of stage,
screen, video games, and animation. But what can these
stories and characters tell us about the American
experience and pop culture? Comic books are an indigenous
American art form, but what can they reveal about the human
species and our global society? And how have these superheroes
influenced culture and even ethics around the world? I invite you to join experts
of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American history
along with Stan the Man Lee, the legendary co-creator of Spider-Man,
The Avengers, Iron Man, and The X-Men; Daring David Uslan, the next
generation’s comic book maven; and me, Doctor Michael Uslan,
comic book professor, historian, and originator executive producer of
the Batman Dark Night movie franchise. We’ll be hosting an exclusive
new Smithsonian PopX course, The Rise of Superheroes
and Their Impact on Pop Culture. In this five week course we’ll
explore the history of the comic book and the rise of the superhero
from the 1930s to the present day. We can’t wait to start this
adventure with you, so register now. [MUSIC PLAYING]

  1. This is really cool. But I pretty much know all this stuff. I'm well versed in the history and going on's of the behind the scenes of what and why of comic books.

  2. Excited about the new @***** trailer? Take a free online course from the film's Executive Producer Michael Uslan and Marvel icon Stan Lee starting May 5: http://ow.ly/LLXEw

  3. The video content of the course was excellent and very inspiring. I really enjoyed the course. Here's some advice about the homework though. Don't expect any feedback on your work. Even if you submit the final project on time, if you do it just before the deadline it gets buried and no one even will look at it. To make matters worse, they shut down the site only 24 hours after the submission deadline and kick you off of facebook in time for the next course to start. That was a huge disappointment.
