New volunteer center opened near the Museum Fire to help fill sand bags

the museum fire burning north of Flagstaff has been burning now for almost a week it's been a very busy and tiring week for first responders emergency managers and certainly the community of Flagstaff tonight the work far from over ABC 15s John tree while are on the ground in Flagstaff for us tonight well currently there are three sandbag sites up and running in the city of Flagstaff sandbagging operations actually started on Monday just one day after the museum fire started and now the goal is to fill as many sandbags as they can as hundreds of sandbags continue to be filled it's now been nearly one week of firefighting the museum fire which is charred a large portion of the Flagstaff landscape and the effort to suppress the fire is still ongoing we were able to change our tactics and go direct which means we dig in line right next to the fire we have lying around almost all of it now even though property is safe from the fire right now air and ground operations will continue as crews work toward 100 percent containment and an end to the wildfire season till we get that what we'll call a seizing and an ending rain event that fire still active and then the flooding is the next big concern today and into the weekend the fight to prepare parts of Flagstaff for that flooding use all hands on deck as a large amount of rain could mean mud debris and water all flowing down the mountain and into neighborhoods frankly warms my heart to see the outpouring from this community and from the hotshots and everyone else that's coming in to help now if you want to help volunteers are needed to both help fill sandbags and help distribute sandbags into the neighborhoods there is a volunteer check-in station that is set up at the Coconino County Health Department on King Street you can go there and check in to volunteer reporting from Flagstaff I'm John tree while ER ABC 15 Arizona
