New Lebanon School – Many Cultures, One Community

Hi my name is Alley Bartholomew and I’m
the principal at New Lebanon School. What sets New Lebanon apart is our unique
staff, students and community. Our families are truly one-of-a-kind and
involved in every aspect of our students education. Another thing that makes New
Lebanon unique is our brand new state of the art building.
We’re pending LEED certification which is incorporated in how our building is
structured but also in our curriculum and what we’re teaching our students
every day in terms of sustainability and taking care of this space that we live
and work in. Another thing that sets New Lebanon apart is our breakout spaces
that are found throughout the building, our small offices where students get to
work one-on-one in small groups and our Learning Commons which can be seen from
many points of the building. Floor-to-ceiling windows where all of
our books, media and technology is housed. Part of our Learning Commons is our
innovation space which allows students to design, innovate and create their own
ideas from scratch every day. Our spaces at New Lebanon are also soundproof
allowing students to learn in quiet and calm places. We have two state-of-the-art
playgrounds, one for younger children and one for older children that allow our
children to move and play outside throughout the day and after school. At
New Leb the classroom atmosphere is engaging, it’s fun, it’s lively and it’s
super welcoming and it’s always abuzz with learning in the classrooms as the
children are engaged in inquiry and all sorts of learning, collaborating together.
The IB program or approach is unique to New Leb because it allows children
to access the GPS curriculum through hands-on and inquiry based learning. It
also teaches children to be more aware of the world around us while being
globally minded. All our teachers know what our students needs are and we
adjust based on their ability, their social emotional needs and we really
care for each one of our students and how we can adjust to best serve them
every day. My favorite thing about New Leb is that
teachers, the students, the whole school, like everyone’s kind and when you when
you come in here you get a warm welcome. My favorite thing about New Leb is learning. I love coming to New Leb because I get
to help new people. I’m proud to have gone to New Leb because I was
surrounded by the best and most caring group of people that I’ve met up to this
day. The community is so strong and everybody has each other’s backs. One
word I would use to describe New Lebanon School is inclusive. Engaging. Home. Unique.
Powerful. It would be community. Fun. Supportive. Activities.
Amazing. It’s exciting to come to the school.
