Protesters in Northern Ireland attacked police
vehicles with sledgehammers and hatchets Monday in another night of violent demonstrations.
The United Kingdom’92s Union flag is at the
center of a heated dispute in Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland. The city council
voted last month to stop flying that flag over city hall every day. And as a result,
U.K. loyalists in the region have staged public protests over the past month. [Video: {field{*fldinst{HYPERLINK

of organizing trouble. Others blame social media ’85 Only a small number of areas have
been hit by trouble, but the cost has been high.’94

The violence Monday wasn’92t just between protesters and police. It was largely between
loyalists and Northern Ireland nationalists.
The demonstrations began as peaceful protests by loyalists at Belfast’92s city hall seen
here. The real trouble started as the loyalists marched back into east Belfast. As they passed
the Short Strand, nationalists threw rocks and bottles at the loyalist crowd, with a
few fights between both sides breaking out. Police intervened, trying to move loyalist
protesters further up Newtownards Road ’97’a0but soon they too were attacked, with loyalists
smashing police cars with sledgehammers and hatchets. [Video: {field{*fldinst{HYPERLINK

Of course, the violence is about more than
just a flag. Loyalists see the city council decision as a sign of resentment toward the
U.K. government ’97’a0digging up long-held tensions built on cultural differences, even
between Catholics and Protestants. [Video: {field{*fldinst{HYPERLINK “http://news.sky.com/story/1034234/belfast-violence-baton-rounds-fired-at-rioters”}}{fldrslt

Ireland.
pardpardeftab720sa240 b cf2 ’93This is the straw that broke the
camel’92s back. And I would say that the community that I come from, and I’92ve been
saying this for a long way, have just about had enough. And the frustration you’92re
seeing on the streets.’94 b0
Police are on guard for another night of protests
Tuesday. Sky News reports more than 60 police officers have been injured in protests over
the last five weeks. More than 100 people have been arrested.

  1. well well so the loyalist community has had it huh? then leave , your all squatters anyway and soon we will have an All-Ireland vote ..a united Ireland and we wont ask so nice Tiocfaidh ár lá 26+6=1

  2. Most of northern Irelands territory is nationalist majority. Unionists have only majority in 2 out of 32 counties in Ireland. Antrim and Down.

  3. The Loyalists don't get it, they are born and raised in Northern Ireland on the Island of Ireland, not Britain. Ulster is a Province in Ireland that has 3 counties in the republic and 6 in the North, meaning what they say retarded. Ulster is not British, Northern Ireland is in the UK, they're not British, they don't live in northern Britain.

  4. We don't move because its our country, British came to our country and raped and killed our people and they expected us to lie down and take it, the majority of people in ulster regard themselves as Irish, these British loyalists are a extremist minority

  5. why dont loyalist move to England? hardly a solution to a a diverse culture problem. wake up nether nationalist or loyalist will move away. your stuck with each other and until common ground is achieved on both sides your communities will continue to suffer.

  6. 10 to 15 years? Hmmmm, didn't Sinn Fein say that back in 1998 and guess what? It's 15 years on and we're still British

  7. Lolp821, Northern Ireland is British. It's administered by Britain through the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, a member of the British Cabinet. NI uses the British Sterling currency with Her Majesty's face on all coins. Republicans even accept Her Majesty's Welfare payments oh an even better, the Free British NHS!

  8. so if or when n ireland becomes part of ireland, the loyalists become the minority they will say you took their land and persecute them,so they will take up arms and fight for their freedom from dublin, christ no wonder dublin dont want anything to do with the north!!!

  9. Northern Ireland is the UK, don't be afraid to fly the Union Jack. Unfortunately most Americans have soft spot for the Republic and don't realize that the people of Northern Ireland are happy within the UK. No surrender- from the good old US of A.

  10. Half use are brain dead cunts don't even have a clue about Northern Ireland it's part uk face it don't like it then just fuck off back home no surrender to the ira scum and there supporters
