Kyiv Post Newsy Vlog: Law enforcement trade blame. Nationalists chase Poroshenko. Election horoscope

Hi! My name is Oleksiy Sorokin,
I am a staff writer at Kyiv Post and in case you were wondering
what’s happening in Ukraine But didn’t have time to read our extensive
coverage both in print and on our website I’m here to give you a short recap
of last week’s events Let’s start with the corruption scandal
that struck Ukroboronprom – a huge defense sector enterprise. Remember the investigative report in which
the son of President Poroshenko’s top ally Oleg Hladkovskiy together
with buddies was smuggling parts from Russia and re-selling them at inflated prices
costing the state millions of dollars? Yeah, so this week the final part
of the investigation was released and it talked about how all
law enforcement agencies forgot to enforce the law and were
covering up for daddy’s little helper. So the law enforcement agencies after the
report came out created a joint commission,
dismissed everybody involved and and promised a fair prosecution. No, just kidding, they blamed each other. First, the Prosecutor General
Yuriy Lutsenko said that the journalists issued the report right
when investigation was almost over and were… and when prosecution was about
to arrest all the suspects. In other words,
behind any good investigative journalist is an even better cop. Later on, Lutsenko that the National
Anti-Corruption Agency or NABU was the one sabotaging the investigation. Then the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor
Nazar Kholodnytsky also blamed NABU saying that the agency had to receive 87
pages of correspondence including Hladkovsky himself. Oh, by the way, Kholodnytskiy himself
is under fire for sabotaging anti-corruption investigations,
and even the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine called for his dismissal. NABU, of course, said that they haven’t
received anything and said it’s the prosecution who are
sabotaging the investigation. By the way: on Monday, Kyiv court of
appeals said that during a windstorm a bunch of documents
were blown out of the building. I wouldn’t be surprised if the same
happened to Hladkovskyi’s papers. Meanwhile, nationalists are playing a game
called catch the president following him all over the country,
fighting with the police and demanding that Hladkovskiy
would be placed on trial. Also, fun fact:
Hladkovskiy last name before 2014 was Svynarchuk,
a Ukrainian derivation from “piggy” Like, actually. By the way. Poroshenko recently said that
he and his team have zero tolerance for corruption,
adding this to his previous catchphrase that he’ll chop off hands
of corrupt officials. Someone bring this guy a saw. Since we are talking about the president,
his team decided to spice up the election campaign by giving out election themed Zodiac predictions
in Kharkiv. They assigned Ukraine to Virgo sign, because of Independence Day
being in late August, and decided to rate other Zodiac signs
based on their compatibility to Ukraine. They found that Libra is the sign most
compatible with Ukraine. Guess, who’s a Libra? Poroshenko. And the worst signs for Ukraine were
Aquarius, Scorpio, and Sagittarius. And yes, those are the signs of
Poroshenko’s main competitors – Volodymyr Zelenskiy, Yulia Tymoshenko,
and Anatoliy Grytsenko. Talk about a plot twist. Funny story…
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is also a Libra. Oops, something went wrong. From the current president to the former.
Remember Paul Manafort? Viktor Yanukovych’s former top adviser
was sentenced in the U.S. to a total of 7.5 years in prison
for tax evasion and bank fraud. Earlier this month he received his first,
3.5 year sentence with the judge citing that he led an
“otherwise blameless life.” Well yeah, he was helping dictators come
to power – but that’s no biggie, right? Shout out to UFT, thanks for watching,
see you next time. Bye!
