Jimmy Fallon Reveals the 2019 Doodle for Google National Winner

-This year, I got to help judge
the Doodle 4 Google contest, where students from across
the country submit a doodle for a chance to have it featured
on the Google home page. You know how they change the
home page every now and then? Yeah. Right now, we’re going to
announce who won. Please welcome the 2019
Doodle 4 Google national winner, Arantza Peña Popo,
ladies and gentlemen. ♪♪
[ Cheers and applause ] Oh, my goodness.
[ Cheers and applause ] Look at that.
Arantza, there you go. Yeah. No, no, no. Please sit.
That’s for you. Arantza, welcome to the show. And will you tell everyone
what Doodle 4 Google is and how you got involved? -Doodle 4 Google — it’s this
really cool art contest where students get to
submit their drawings to be displayed on
the Google home page. -Yeah. -And this year’s theme was
“When I Grow Up, I Hope…” And, well, you were
one of the judges this year, and, well, I won, so thank you. -I chose you. Yeah.
I loved yours. I’m just one of the judges.
I know. But, you know,
I was one of the judges, but I looked at a whole bunch of
great doodles, I guess. But, I mean,
honestly, it was beautiful art. So, let me just
tell you some stats here just to make you feel good
about yourself. Your doodle was chosen out of
over 200,000 submissions. [ Cheers and applause ]
200,000. It’s going to be featured on
the Google home page all day starting at
midnight tonight, so… [ Cheers and applause ]
Yeah. So you will see it.
Millions of you will see it. You won a $50,000 tech package
for your high school, where you just graduated
as valedictorian. -Yep.
[ Cheers and applause ] -You won a $30,000
college scholarship, which you’re using towards
USC this fall. [ Cheers and applause ] Now, “When I Grow Up, I Hope…”
was the theme. And what did you come up with? -Well, I know, like, at first,
I honestly wanted to do, like, an invention or a career, but I wanted to make it
more personal to me, so I decided to make it
about my mother. You know, she’s made so many
sacrifices for me, so I kind of wanted to show
me paying it back in the future. So, it’s practically — You
know, she cares so much for me and sacrificed so much,
so I want to pay — well, just care for her in the
future and make her life better in the future,
like she did for me. -That’s so sweet. I want to shout her out
a little bit. Your mom is in
the audience tonight. Maria, are you out there?
There’s mom right there. [ Cheers and applause ] Alright. You must be
very, very, very proud. It is time to see your
Google doodle. Let’s take a look. Here we go.
[ Drumroll ] Curtain open. Look at this!
Oh, my goodness! Come on. ♪♪
[ Cheers and applause ] And look at that.
Now, I loved it. I loved it.
Yeah, you can go there. I loved it because
I’m assuming that is a picture of your mother
and you up top? -It’s in the family room. Yeah, it’s just, like, hanging
in the family room at home. -And then,
underneath the painting is you caring for your mother. -Yeah. It’s like I flipped
the switch, practically. Yeah. -Dude, I lost it.
I go, “Oh, yeah, I got it.” [ Cheers and applause ]
Your mom — Yeah. Giving back to mom. Millions of people will be
seeing this tomorrow. Congratulations to you.
-Thank you so much. -Again, I really —
Congratulations. Arantza Peña Popo, everybody.
Good luck at USC.

  8. What a beautiful tribute to your mother…you are an amazing young woman! Congratulations Arantza and best wishes to you at USC!!!

  9. Yay no daddy, because that's not everything wrong with America today. Lol, of course google picks this nonsense.

  10. Imagine that, they picked a black woman. Itโ€™s almost as if thatโ€™s their favorite demographic for these doodles.

  11. I cried! Terrific job ! Sorry to mention but did anyone else think she looks a little like hooks from police academy or lupita nyango?

  12. INSPIRING. I am so proud of you & I'm right there too in the list of greatness. Good luck in college and in the next chapter of your life.

  13. so sweet. Mom did a great job with such a sweet, humble, beautiful young lady. God Bless you, and best of luck in college!

  17. Precious Souls of GOD…A Good Day to Each of you!!!

First, CONGRATULATIONS Arantza and Mom. Thank you Jimmy for making the choice. It's soooo…I cannot locate the words but I have read a LOT of the comments. Reading some of these comments causes me to think some of the commenters should have "considered before they clicked and pondered before they posted. I thank God I was raised up in a two parent home but the old school women in my life would tell us, "If you ain't got nothing nice to say; don't say it at all!"

LORD GOD have mercy on the minds and
hearts of the people. I can appreciate the simple words of adoration and congratulations, such as "amazing, well done, beautiful inside and out, great, Mom should be proud, Arantza will go far, etc" to say a few. However, making unnecessary and unbeneficial statements, "so does Myspace; how come they didn't select MORE winners, I wish they would have shown the runners up; doesn't she remind you of the lady from police academy or Lupita Nyongo; this is to show a fatherless home because they want to keep the traditional family broken up;(especially for black people); conspiracy theories (I do know are real), etcโ€ฆ" SERIOUSLY???What this got to do with this young lady who MOST of us don't know? This ain't got nothing to do with all of that negative and jealous stuff said. GOD show mercy!!!

Arantza Pena Popo was chosen. This was simply about the LOVE between a Mother and Child!!!
For all the negative commenters: If that is as far as your minds can travel it's time Let Go and Let GOD!!! Yes, racism still exists, Redlining still exist; Hispanics are still treated poorly; conspiracy theories are real; it's a lot of single parents homes in this nation and sooo many others (I am a Single Mama); child exploitation; child, adult and elderly abuse exist…These issues are important!!! Again, What does this (Arantza's win) have to do with that(negative and jealous words)??? A young lady who won a contest that may be of Black/African American and/ or Spanish descent; stirred up some people to negativity. Wow!!! Souls truly are searching and don't realize the GOD shaped void within this world WILL NEVER fill. Only Jesus!!!

The LORD requires we ALL CARE for our own households FIRST!!! GOD is good and many of these SIN LADEN problems that are present in our world would be gone; if EVERYONE who has not acknowledged GOD; would Repent and ask forgiveness.JESUS still Saves and LOVES!!! He WILL Heal the Land (People) as it so DESPERATELY needs. A Nation is only as Good as it's: Homes because it's everyone's first line of defense is in the HOME. PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE PRECIOUS SOULS OF GOD: "If you ain't got nothing nice to say; don't say it at all." God knows I'm praying for the Souls of Humanity!!! Goodbye!!!

  18. I'm not criticizing her, but I think there is too much focus on winners and we ignore the vast majority of losers. This lottery mentality is part of the context that created the monster #PresidentTweety, the biggest, fakest lottery "winner" of them all.

  19. Congratulations to a beautiful young woman whose intelligence, grace and spirit shines through. Her mother's courage, guidance and love helped this young woman reach her goal. Without parents, teacher's and committed family our children cannot succeed. Much success to mother and daughter and I know that Arantza will do well in her endeavors.

  20. In my 30 years of teaching Kindergarten, a book I could never get through without crying, was "Love You Forever" by Robert Munich. The doodle captures the essence of that book. I cried when I watched this live on Monday

  21. She's Colombian and can speak spanish. I saw her interview on Telemundo. Congrats girl! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’š

  22. am sure when she finished the doodle, she said oh well, it's not great but its all right. Let's submit it and get it on with it! HAHAHA….Congrats Arantza! Bravo
