Jazz Society

and jazz is alive and well in our region all this month the Jazz and Cultural Society is celebrating its one-year anniversary Byron Scott has the story it was about a year ago that we introduced you to the Jazz and Cultural Society and 28:13 12th Street northeast this was then and this is now Jax as it's called is more colorful the crowds larger the decor well rooted in the look and feel of a jazz club as for the music it swings Jax in some measure is the result of a serendipitous meeting of two like-minded people musician DeAndre Howard and dr. Alice jameson who bought the property in the 1970s Jamison needed some repairs done to the building I was packing up a window for her because it's going blue a window didn't actually show me almost right because that was exact same female the physical transformation began six years ago and last night was time to celebrate its first anniversary the main band featured DeAndre Howard on brass and vocals others included Herman Bernay on upright bass Lenny Robinson on drums and Bob Buddha on piano wheelchair last night's anniversary celebration was a jam session featuring a who's who of area musicians who wanted to be part of the musical conversation Jax is not only non alcoholic it's a nonprofit organization the cost of admission on most nights is just five dollars and is Howard likes to say jazz jazz jazz anything else is uncivilized the club has gone from Wednesday only performances to now include Sundays with special events on Thursdays and Saturdays an opportunity to feel like this is in their living room they have so much more to come we just have so much Byron Scott CTV News Howard and Jamison continue with another anniversary performance tonight they hope to include a children's music program this summer
