IREXIT? Irish eurosceptic party begin anti-EU billboard campaign – ‘Patriotic alternative’


 The Irish Freedom Party, who are yet to receive official political party registration, have begun erecting posters across the country campaigning against EU membership One of the posters protests against a hard border with the EU and reads: “It will be a hard border of the European Union Nobody in Ireland wants that.” Another features an image of Irish rebel icon Michael Collins and EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker with the slogan: “EU membership means paying old men we didn’t elect to make EU laws we don’t need ” Related articles Ireland to leave EU: Irexit Freedom party set up by Farage ally EU facing BREXIT CRISIS: Ireland and Brussels relationship ON BRINK  The billboard campaign was funded by donations from members of the group  James Darby, communications director, said: “We believe the best people to look after Irish affairs are the Irish people themselves  “We will be making the case to be a normal, self-governing and independent state  “Something that those who came before us, sacrificed to create for the good of their children’s future ”The Irish Freedom Party have launched a nationwide billboard campaign against the EU (Image: PA) The Party have said the campaign has already received a “tremendous response”  Writing on Twitter they said: “Tremendous response to our nationwide billboard campaign Many new members have joined us today.” In support of the campaign, one person Tweeted: “Well done, great to see the message getting out, the bill boards have gotten plenty of coverage and look great Time for independence!” The Brexit-inspired group has applied for official recognition and intends to run candidates in the upcoming European elections Related articles BREXIT BOMBSHELL: Ireland faces huge employment shock if UK walks away COST of Brexit solidarity: Macron ally warns Ireland what they expect The billboard campaign was funded by donations from members of the group (Image: PA) Party founder Hermann Kelly and chairwoman Professor Dolores Cahill of University College Dublin have already announced their intention to run in the election if the group is registered  The group maintains it is the only party that believes in Irish freedom and national sovereignty  Mr Darby said it was time to reject the “politically correct Europhile establishment” and embrace the “patriotic alternative”  He added: “The days of subservience to foreign authority should be over.”
