HUSO2075 Social and Political Theory Intro 1950

hello my name is Laurel Mackenzie and this semester I will be teaching social and political theory this is a theoretical course that introduces you to the broad spectrum different ways of understanding the ideas underlying social policy we all be looking at ideas that draw on individualistic discourses as well as ideas underlying policy that assumes a structural basis to policy this exploration of ideas allows you to take the underlying core values and then try and find a way of seeing how the problem could be conceived differently it's as though you have a kaleidoscope through which you look at the problem in one way and then through this course we show you how the problem could be identified using a different lens of the kaleidoscope we are trying to show you that every way that you look at policy it's only one perspective and in order to approach social problems differently sometimes a different perspective is needed in this course we'll be exploring ideas from socialist theory feminist theory Marxist structuralist functionalism and other theories that underlie a great deal of modern thought policymaking social and political ideas I look forward to working with you
