Hunting and social media – where did it go wrong?

Hunting and social media – where did it go wrong?

just ignore it [Applause] yeah [Applause] yes Oh yes welcome to the cottage owners scale fair theater or a second day of Chapman de Becque it's not a packed audience applauding but the good thing is the rain will start to bring people in even if the subjects of the debates don't like hope you enjoy the first one by talking about hunting and shooting sports and what seems to have gone wrong for them on social media so please welcome onto the stage chatter any team supporters okay [Applause] [Applause] right is it fair to say Gary that we have a social media and shooting sports problem I think there's a problem in the understanding of simply how social media works for certainly the implications in some cases what you may post at 10 11 o'clock at night after abruptly as I put the glasses of wine can come back to building at a later date and if we know if we accept that there's a pill bottle for shooting on consent Wow we should be shy away if you want to win hearts and minds in the middle ground we have to be really careful about what we post and when we close giving and the context watch what constitutes as far as you who say what constitute a sort of PR probably you have to mop up on a Monday morning people generally don't that's all I don't think so I mean some people were the extremists obviously maybe Brown was ambivalence you know it is a picture of this and she lives with all those things that doesn't always play to me just say to people think about what you post think about plays with the general public you know if we accept that we shouldn't be preaching to the converted we need sexual outside the converter let me think about the presentation of that message pound since is the picture can be okay it's it's it has to contact it has the words that explain the picture that can be okay but sometimes we can see that we just see the picture the causes so it's it's a perception of pain we should we shy away from what we do and we should be proud you have to just think how that plays in degree if accepted that we need to gaining quite a bit of ground in certain movies then you've got something the reach of social media is amazing that Bruins it's a fantastic tool for us the only fast microphones here we have Q the Koch picture these we all know the gate fiction that's looking to you fool so they even nearly a cakes that's a great picture okay so we all know that this this is this is funny where it all blew up yeah what's your sort of phony rule for posting anything about mobility and my post class name it's making sure that whatever you post shows there's an element of respect respect what do you mean respectfully firstly respectfully Laurie and Travis a photo is she not showing some respect for the quarry or not really well yes eyes in her on that level for a respect element but just like you said what do I do generally and I I think having that level of respect explaining like you said Gary as well actually when we all read a context why you're doing what you're doing showing as an editorial process you know like Gary said people just because a lot of people have an issue with the fact that and life has been taken and if you don't explain that properly and your writings show respect as well this you can see across especially Instagram very flippant remarks and so it might not necessarily be the picture that somebody has an issue it could be what's written about it underneath as well so that's what I mean it's like this employees it's a very difficult one to kind of explain what I mean by respect but it's you can take it you take it at home like I let this point about how to deal with it after after something better because I'm sure there is a swift Nick who picks it there with her Kate wasn't expecting the media storms we got can I just ask you out al you have a a personal social media following in this your Facebook is very characterized by your hunting and stalking pictures and your and your love of TV on super large dogs but I'll forgive that do you have any rules when you've been at pictures Mira yeah I do have some rules so I adopted a European style of presenting game okay and they might do I have never been officially at this suit cost I take a picture of my wife with my dog the annual presented in a way that is acceptable to public so I avoid all notice or the animal my cousin was unknown leakages he says little one with presenting new games just the way it is at the moment people are just sensitives received an animal I know my big dog in mind wouldn't believe but it's nothing wrong with you know the reason we take this picture as a memento of today when I remember the experience we've had deep within seconds or weeks or I know that the moments to remember this is good respectable how vanilla shooters see it because and this is gonna cost us in the future of America's civilian because if we are losing the public in the back drive they continue we could be reinforce the notion that that bloodthirsty she's a bitch we're not in any one white but if that's all they see on Facebook Instagram in smoke the service ID I'm never in the pictures I use any animals with respect in my definition of respect would be not showing it blood this is a village of animal are we presented on pictures at all but presented a nice acceptable way of not blood that's okay we're all sounding very very shaky did you learn the hard way or did you you always be like this yeah for my mom and she said picture audits and I got one for straight away my family the hunting down for me with it but I ran out earlier on ticket the Europeans are very good at this is that service I've been shooting us with him he just goes and I presented every unwashed on part of my I put on Facebook see my place to see the schedule about what it looks like so it may be a normal high school I'm gonna go to the peculiar problem of women portrayed in hunting your sector but okay I couldn't ask you when this picture came out and it was last ten bill was it did ever be in bats go oh that's marvelous what a good week we're going to have or how does he deal with it something phone call since five years I think I probably know that this isn't just a picture on social media but picture on that story so shoots him to the full page of every newspaper in the country it was for a while until some politician listen people are kind of what that was it was the main story on every important that was on negative 5 minus 2 we you know this was a very very rapidly probably all the biggest stories that we all units of us indeed yeah you know you got me is you have you and you have a sort of a kind of peculiar interest in this because it's kind of it crosses over face that's absolutely for area of deer still even answer games yeah and perhaps kind of normal for that still as they say they a big game and trophy hunting yes characterize it so how do you take how do you take a phrase like trophy hunting and explain that to the British people no problem of this picture in particular was about lack of contact so you know we could go something okay and say explain explain shooting that's explaining why we'll do that I don't think the picture had the original context so I think it was a slightly wider picture than the bat it showed the blood dripping down the nose and onto the grass and all those things and there's no context I notice it was a very country American statement underneath it said you know I expect whatever yes a house a massive following on social media but don't kid yourself that all of those different 2000 people through what you do if some of those people are showing your story just to watch what we just do well especially now that but interestingly that picture have been online for a while yeah for some viral moment right women there's something fabulously I'm so pleased curiously sexist about the entities because they are looking at pictures of terrible weather to do that you know there's a part of she should be home washing up do you think that stuff is that an angles purpose or that I think it's great no I think you're right and I think many of you see an image of the woman who's been out shooting with a girl Corey at the end it really just challenged and preconceptions that people have about females and their role and it seemed it seemed as a woman that's you has that happened to you as well no I've actually used to dodge a lot of negativity online since somehow No and hopefully that is a reflection of the fact that I do try and explain and there hasn't been a saying in for too controversial I've posted but I do see some of the other ladies online who really they have advantage of time well we weren't gonna have Rachel came here that's funny off-putting she she couldn't make it but I have got a picture of trool the Internet by the most offensive picture I couldn't Claire and Rachel before the pop up on the screen now see you're gonna see nature red in tooth my goodness that's appalling so I mean in a way though it is a tricky shot just don't care it is below and we were discussing the salary Charlie I think there is a following line between the respect element and a trophy who they're truthful culture wanna what we're not showing the way you stood you know this is a fact of life this is what we do to eat meat you know the life is given and it's I think it isn't paid to post pictures isn't going to comment on it exactly to show in the same way that you take a photograph of a nice steak in a restaurant or something like that indeed and there is that complete utter disconnect about food and what goes into farming meat production and all elements of there's a complete disconnect and so I think striking that balance between a cry and explaining and bringing bringing people only journey with you actually acceptation carrying the medium a lay-around good cake were you able to make any of those points yes what we did at the bazaar we even in the the Alex to Norway Republican cause there is an opportunity to get the positive messages out an opportunity to give someone a context so I think we did and I think we for example Colin chef who's our Scotland director he spent an afternoon walk around with Skye Scotland gave some positive messages and I tried to give a little bit of the context – you say that in a situation like that you do think of the whole world of the media ganging up on you and you know wanting two months to you but it's the audience itself is perfectly able to judge isn't it yeah those are kind of intelligence level we often take for granted I mean perhaps the question about social media is is should we address the audience has there been a shift in how audiences approach media and in the old days they believe what they read in the salad bar now they're much more judgment I know the viewers that field-sports Channel have a single motto because I'll be the judge of that yeah so you can tell them anything so technically I'm dessert that people we do I think social media speech has completely changed the landscape in the last five six years example some of the issues that we've done with this week around mark areas and new things you know four five six years ago they probably got for the stories of a newspaper a year now they can preach to a massive following on a daily basis numerous times a day I can consider the reach of the things they'll say but that's a massive that's a massive to get the message out it says but they're but they're in there sort of top-down and preachy BBC kind of way I don't think they're getting their debt that you were it by putting funding to walk across the moor in Scotland and I think in terms of somebody looking at it's both of them a grand standing exercises Packham saying i've been disgusting well there's Pauly's audiences Hurley and then you've got Colin walking across and more that is also a great understanding exercise especially was saying look here is he doesn't at one with the countryside and more effective because it is more profound than some decadent about haircut so everyone does the rest of his his presence yeah absolutely it's hard social media now this is told by the mainstream media as well and they draw the key accounts that ronnie has need to watch and they get those stories easier as well and like I mean we were we were in the Daily Telegraph yesterday fastest quality mark everybody said they did much to the quote heavenly quota – tweets and that's that's you know that's one of the issues that we need to consider as well is that social media doesn't just play to social media that can play into the mainstream I'll have you had a good walk through the media anyway I know I don't involve what a bit of media do not lots of stuff on Facebook saying it had potentially seen by millions potentially is something I hadn't put up that is available so I restrict as much of it as I can I mean I am very careful in the audience I cater for so most of my shots involve the deal of just felt exactly that tree has been damaging at the plantation so I trunk with arrows and explain that the clear damages and so forth so that the picture tells a story of what's happened so the last twenty or twenty five animals article that always has another caption to say way the work called wider occult and that's where things are and looking about educates people but I don't I don't smuggle as much as media because I'm just supposed to primarily but this gives it a bit of context tell you tell everybody a job and not all of your friends are part that kind of country including an echo chamber actors paulina so I and there is a scientist all up on cancer research someone Bejo I'm working up to 1950 2008 solanki my humblest most hazardous go feed the grass manatees help very good efficient easy way but that's my context but I'm surrounded by a lot of European liberals nine times that my friends aren't I really don't like what I do I don't mind it at work everybody knows it's a bit of a struggle in the way that I see as a problem so I converted at least a dozen people now I bring them game I work back sealed and everything so there are people who hated it at the beginning about four years ago now I happily accept my cartridge Benson grounds whatsoever so gives us a way that continues to convert people incremental but suddenly that's different because the impactors who are white I think that's happen we have to be careful who are ambassadors are for shooting and I think I in person s right we're lost with some of them it's tough though social media particularly something hasn't done it along DMF is a skilled or trained enough to be the ambassador's of this region topping the next step for the Association everybody here really is who do we promote to be our and our space for shooting and I think there's an element of place particularly with influences companies boxing in certain individuals I don't want it done is correct Montana why sports only to be careful who is putting out content us we've done very well very activist Alenia having any average shootings – yes listen to be careful in the retweet you sharing that's okay well it's a full running in the background with a jolly day together northeast where we were it's something terrible happened if somebody's had have picked it up and went for the kind of absolute light isn't it appalling even how would you think that situation not me I'm very lucky because I'm and early epoch 102 mobile and the hustle Isis my chances Italian chisel European has a license so my Karan Walker said break they've got my so they gave us some help this goes last week about charity a neighbor I think we're expected as people who shoot certificates to be to behave as a user you have to accept that that goes into social media as well so we have a lot and I have the keys you know sometimes the words you type what they what you think they're waiting your that when people read it on the screen around the page isn't necessarily the same thing the whole world winning you've gotta be awfully careful that that's that was unpleasant and can enter something from a punishing fire which means you can take it sweep down and you don't know who's who's Street one thing that consistently amazes me I work for the BBC before bus and we would post and front foyer for so it's an amazing – brilliant it takes it's taking shoes into places that you've never get to it can do what is it is about some sort of the world it's just that there's a real accessibility so you know if you look back 10 15 years I wait for a TV programme we wait for 20 pets there are a few possibilities you can connect with never to us politicians it is a bunch of them who have in two thousand followers and you have $10 can you post something online let us about mentor and they typically don't viable overnight because and if you're not kind of able to claim to that situation it can be extremely stressful yeah and if you're at the center of what's for Twitter storm or social media storm and you feel like the whole world is phasing in with you back in the days of Professor Gary because he's an old prep sky but you know those days have to keep the money ourselves which attracted me we wrote our stories and took that you know but it's just you know dealing at social media stress and say in the comments for stressful classes that we've got stuff about social media and it's those things that it's sexist and it's just words it's a problem I have with we have so from the works and it's there's something to judgmental qualities particularly from within shooting what people do is they say this is what I think is acceptable and all those always that line is drawn directly below where they are and includes damn and everything above them and they kind of the obvious corollary to that below this line should be banned or restricted or shouldn't be allowed or something like that that's I find there's a little bit kind of rotten about social media am I being fair already all right so take take take okay okay and there's actually works particularly with the ante so they say that should be bad because let's say an apartment because they think it should be banned opposed to say it because I don't know said it's below what I do I do go to a supermarket from above and that fuse day is lower than me therefore it is a kind of a judgment really yeah and I guess I'm somebody said to me that if you put yourself out there especially you ain't gonna follow you have to expect that but it comes back to this accessibility for everybody now has a voice and I think I'm from what I see and people can forget that when you post something online you're not just posting it to ten people no you're not just like like you might share it really what's up to your family or your friends anybody can have access to that and it's about when you have to be living the over a bit you might pass a comment or make a few police for that because all it takes is one person say something that comment slightly controversial that's point about you know the kind of comments that follow days normally this kind of thing is in a better place my hours post you know his beer it's slightly backed about think about your controversial comments you know the other things if you wouldn't say to somebody face-to-face in the port but don't say oh okay what about the the notion of the Huntress now this is where someone like Larissa or there are there are lots people but it because of other pictures other mainly Americans and they post these favorite shots so this is an interesting one so she got the turtle trouble shooting a mountain lion so she got the usual kind of sexy sanity thing and then was Frannie something from Colorado and terrible to opportunity night at night and then she said yeah but I exit since I finished my family they've got a picture that kind of went along with that element of the story I'm just you know pretty gory but suddenly the answers had to go forward if you rate it you know some summer that's it that's a right there so you know it's something you're back to being at home being away from being a huntress forget that it was enough that picture thank you he was a few Magister a thief but the notion of the Huntress which some of these completely American set themselves up to be do you think that word itself is damaging issues also is that what plays in America doesn't necessarily in England whenever social media has no power DC the Daily Telegraph basically only goes to the UK but that's we could go all around the world and you know they're very often American might be slightly different that I was saying Germany might be slightly different to our appetites general problems happens in American today who ever get to decorate the houses on this respect we don't do that as a rule albian subjective as you as you can it does the word Huntress have any connotations Polly or the dust among my sinister of one extreme end of that argument because the Richard carrier do this thing in our mentors and I'm certain that interest like that says there is a commercial element to it all customers are guilty of this in terms of who we follow not something definite has a commercial value and they will persist for quite some time so one of the things I do is I have trained ladies once I got through school to get something capes personal women are City Council about 24 so far so they come from Europe down south just chrysocolla row and a lot of grand kids so I can miss a lot of people so from whatever and take them out and training them and sometimes they come to learn how to reload bullets go texture bullets need to take their own animal so it's crazy to fade out from what I can gather I mean muslin I'm keen on the term interest there is a like for this element and I think this day and age with a woman besides you courageous enough to pick up a rifle in golf Colin animal party no man commentary's I went in I think serious okay if you'll kind of lick me around the media I think coming down on the side so the next question I think is the will go back to this home making thing and there's been institutional sexism involved in in being an auntie is that something we can use against that is there any way to do that yeah absolutely and I think Rachel this as well and changing not necessarily changing but it's that education in it so if you can show a different perspective you can explain and you can show that any two ends that you're feeding your family might not you just said to me know if you just tell us the story of what Rachel's done over the last week in the media I just explained people who don't know what Rachel caring what she's what she's gonna say I believe Rachel swinging out a cookbook and made mainstream press talking about it and promoting it and there was a minute I thought she was having a tough time as well online because you can see there was a man on Sunday story last weekend and it was here is to form a vegetarian Rachel who has fed their family and they had a list of 159 pigeons and 35,000 see to theory it was it was Mother's I thought just work hits father Gary yeah I think it was originally a Sunday Times we gave them some background information and I think that the key though isn't it is like what so should we use to continue to pump out the positive stories and it is churning our positive story and that was I hope eventually there's a long term vision but eventually the the positive will outweigh the you know if you look at where we are that's now I shall know four or five ladies on council so you know bats first female moisture [Applause] councilmember 15 five so it's a real positive feel like the Boris Johnson cabinet when I take it isn't about the her taking committee yeah they said just came back to regional support way she was done which i think is clever is she promoted an idea that it's a very very simple story in fact if she was a vegetarian she was 12 and yet she's nailed it in the media she don't put last year there before it was a freelance journalist to work with Daily Telegraph Louise gray this summer thing wrote a book my an excellent book and we did some stuff with it so stop waiting positive and that works that way puzzle was there a downside could couldn't have all gone wrong cuz she had been characterized in that hospital as evil mum forces their children to eat I think so that I can rate I don't know who Rachel's PR people are but do think one way norm up well I hope but one small level there will always be a negative even when you take something out that is in it's highly positive she had compassion in world farming sake she's doing a really good job and I think that was extraordinary that's not bad okay and so the mum things stay at home now we've got one more picture which is really being wrongfully past its kissy Kissy picture please yeah thank you which has characterized a lot especially the trophy hunting debate and so Allah what's offensive about that picture I've got a choice of two things unless you're a tourist oh it's a regular should only be officials when she gets a few points in cisely said lying there is this romantic biology in social media where most who care about the pandas and some creature that has tractable pretty you know but if there is that nature that pretty animals with jiggly large caps gets a lot of media like the elephants so I mean from my point of view unless the hand law was called for management purposes the fact that they were a couple lines with taking that animal it's nothing to it I don't see it as a problem but I can see why that's almost they are taking pleasure in the death of an animal and that's the immediate response of the general public you know more than just using you look at that is that beautiful it's just not this is the kind of image for the money that really doesn't work I mean in the moment they're probably sitting there thinking we are conservation areas we've guarantee for like that significant amount of money you just spend a lot of local schools in Africa and I'm asking myself like you know I had a fully accept either that should have actually Beverly picture that is a disrespectful I ate it for me yes that's how that comes of course when you look at any say you know picture paints a thousand words I don't know about captures with that but you don't look at that and go over there respectful at the animal respect with the environment and you're not worried you're making a bigger than moral judgment there that's Maurice I'm not Kentucky I'm just something when you put something out publicly you all go to judge regardless so I think we all have a responsibility to take a moral judgment because we have to think the players and the word potentially is gloating as if there's a potential and backs viewers gloating over the death of the line I should know American so maybe there's different market for that but the UK the big five if you like perception of hunting the big five will end up about it goat that's happening so you have to know we all have a responsibility so while I'm not everybody's PR professional we all have that responsibility to consider how that's going to play out in the current climate whether it's right or wrong that's not going to play out positive okay this is another test audience bravery does anybody think there's pictures absolutely fine as far as I can so all bunnies are fuzzy and cute weather in the Philippines all those sounds reasonable under our problem in hunting is there is no global consensus these guys go to Africa to decorate their houses we don't do the China Chinese have screen shooting presence in China in China they like to wounds things because they can smell fresh on the way to the kitchen actually don't understand at all but then when I expected we won't labels first explain all the game what's going to your mind so given that we can't build the consensus in world hunting given that Twitter is a global thing how we are kind of at an instant disadvantage what can we get we had opinions can we compete more national prejudices I think it'd be very helpful for us more about national treasures put the hair above there's a reality so that the auntie's are very effective to talk to people when they will they do that there's commercial reality to celebrity you know we have you much conversation up with celebrities would like to do it I'm sorry I just can't we can we do the opposite can we for example we know that during the normally great national closer actress after doesn't like this picture but she appears to be relatively in favor of pheasant shooting now if she thinks it's worthwhile probably feel drift towards being anti pheasant shooting it's always slowing the narrative yes like so at the height of the general license issue William Scott popped up the video that she probably on their iPhone released herself it was amazing it made the times have made various other places just describe what was it was a really impatient video about how she could see the damage that was being done very very quickly particularly in the North Country yeah I think it was it was was the birds in here by God nor the birds in the house it was a bit so next thing to do it was it just got the right messages across and it absolutely plays they were there to the ground and a whole general lighting issue snare very very quickly because actually while we returned about pictures before with the blood conversely the pictures of the lungs with their eyes pepto's play very very well and that was a daily winner yeah absolutely because it explains to people what they don't understand they don't explain it was done packed down to the Crone's can do on a day-to-day basis and that that one picture explained it but I have a context very careful Facebook social media well how would you can how do you have or how did you characterize the generally good sources which ones responsible about sending is realistic now I mean I was quite shocked by the negative response or give me a bus members and all the members immediately was correct right to vote last report I'm not dealing with this which clearly wasn't nothing but that message do you come across about seven days so and as a class member shoot I was slightly disappointed that we weren't galvanizing the view that analogy our vehicle the same job so it was a bit of a division for the first week and then needell came through and we are like actually you know there's nothing good was class we are doing the best we can and job done in the end and I think people are now regretful of the comments that we're not go back to your that would go sort of completely unjustified some sorts of luck what it highlights actually have social media and the media landscape has changed because people on social media want instance it's very difficult for an organization to give an instance answer to something as strategic as us that wasn't some others as sort of wide-ranging as is and you want to put a hold in response out and you were associated for sure people that you're dealing with it but people don't do still needs to take the time as an organization there what you can do in your bedroom on your own between the club is fine because the organization between people it has to be really measured sometimes that takes time especially for an organisation because you're not just dealing with the media doing with the politicians I'm youth the time you reacted very quickly for us because we were about to go to bed with our news program the following day on the Tuesday you said here a very measured response immediately on video which we were able to run with but we didn't need to because then by the time the Wednesday warning is there a case for you to change your sort of your limited tweak response to a combination of that and a kind of Packham style grandstanding response saying don't worry we're on top of this or something like that I think if we accept that that was a crisis and the management of that crisis from a PR perspective changes across the whole the whole timeline this what social medias very good that as a vegetable finger in Windham and see which way things that are going as well so if there's no correct way I think what that crisis showed was the unity it wasn't as fast it was CA stupid OCT who all do amazing work and we were able to jump together very very quickly you don't get those messages out together get the messages to you you the field-sports community rallied together I was a real you know a couple of days the whole okay I'll go back to you personally ninety-five percent normal shooting friends audience deals with vices especially have you explained up to your house so the best way to help others was to post on Facebook and CC website I shared some of the fast material some of the material companies universities or just to educate people what to generalize to talk while we were doing to stop war so then shooters were kind of gone by there was a lot of journal isince closely for about two weeks and I advise be particularly to go and white Deborah big party bus – is helpful just without all my true the friends and injuries that are aware of the chaos that's hacking out new doctrines in song birds nest yesterday wherever and they did see some of the guys have relaxed and they're so excited and got a lot of points it should have worked lunch time versus generalizing sit down some not so if I get up conversation quickly that's why I definitely shared up much of the information learned from their licenses reaction our reaction or socially if there's anything we would because we're going to go through this again generalize this is going to be reviewed in your so there's going to be another around what could we do better next time what we really hope again is if we don't it's not passionately organization and try and get some information and try and get the facts first what I saw almost instantly with the general my sister by police who had people who have significant qualities online calling for their father is to cancel memberships to call and gap the organization's themselves and who and that they were doing that in fact you without actually having all the information turned so if we face this again that can we just let the organizations do their thing of course as the course of this criticism make such a change that the kind of the form of your post-rehab stare basically it's kind of up to us to hold and so we can see whether people think themselves very much in control of their own so for me well what was really interesting and we just touched on it is that day one of the general license there was a huge uproar against the organization's my day-to-day three people were send you praises there's positivity a witness to the individuals could see that your organization's were working together they were doing it from the cannon that we were blindsided it's very difficult to climb down face I would agree with that especially you have a significant following because what you are doing is you are influences whether you like it or label yourself as that if you apologize I do you know I'm not gonna really care too much of people apologize or not but if you have a following if you have an audience if you are influencing and what you say is correct what organization in field-sports well you know we yesterday we had 1700 notifications on social media that's one go alone so in the middle of the crisis we're actually trying to deal with the public thoughts of the crisis people also message to China that sort of deal with people as individuals as well so you know wrinkles messages speak someone's you have a very very good question thank you so you can open up a whole area of the development people going to have is anything else but as a social media problem to do with naturally things that they would like to see so you've all have had a perfectly lovely time with Facebook we're fantastic audience over things to expect incentive a really very good group ins we remember we we have problems with facebook facebook is a so so it's all our phones and I've got two phones here and we all be on Facebook every day but actually when when the wheel comes off of the so you don't like they're very very difficult to deal with they're very difficult to get all those impossible to get answers from quite often we don't get answers well and we got a lot of we get a lot of replies for members who say I posted this or or it be targeted on this and Facebook well think about what day what messages is the comment and we will try to help we we have contacts the Facebook or quite often will say to people go to the three dots in the top right if you don't like a post report the post you know and give Facebook for two or three days to deal with that quite often you'll get back we don't we don't consider the violates our our code on Facebook's code is getting time to imitate it it's positive it's causing problems for the shooting community now some of the words that we use in our posts causes problems that doesn't like work doesn't like guns or doesn't like weapons whatever like she's an even but that's that's not only a situation of our control Facebook is a massive it's right across the globe people post them in the kitchen or whatever please finish established a line in database was incredibly impressive we have a because of our size we have a line into YouTube and we've got we've managed to solve the couple of problems but I wouldn't say reveal cropping up this much maybe there's an hour thing about Facebook or whatever IT business another next time a woman I need to go knock on their door and see if we can get em because we need more of those contacts we've have some contacts we have press contacts of Facebook but they don't they don't feel they have to give you an answer which is probably the problem so but on the SPO got an email from some it's a post of this it's about Mark Avery Mark Avery doesn't like it what can we do to help it's up there now you've posted you've got to be responsible period all right look I think we've got a pretty good amount of granules one point it done Facebook and social media skating situation it's gonna happen next what is it kind of it is the melting pot nature of debate covers our social media again utter worse are we going to see people learning how to pick this meal I kind of you know the early days of the telephone needs to figure out to go boy and they learned how to speak by your telephone they'll learn I just expected social media it's gonna get worse we get better I think it's gonna lead to this on social media yeah I did I just had to see you little group does it bother you that person let me feel sucky Colton something you never gonna see it again is having a shower invitations I mean leave your life through social media but you already alone I get involved in I get more than enough goods that are related to my cancer research products continue separate I don't intentionally separate them but my view is the notion that you do hunting yourself don'twe I wanted to know what you do is absolutely fine but the way things are going we need to educate people what why we do it I've been doing it in silence I don't think it's gonna help long term there shooting is becoming the sentiment is becoming negative and not popular so well I don't have any pollen because people doing their own thing you're not getting involved in this you're absolutely fine I'm part of the Trinity Society some struggles in social media to recruit the older generation phase you may go away that did so I mean it's fine and I think the reason that for me I can speak for myself there is a nice charities because I see it as educational and I've converted a few men shooters into applying for licenses that successfully but licenses so for me I see that as a win is a few more options than there were when I joined so that's why I'm not sponsored by anyone I did for myself I make no money completely but I like their training part of Italy young guys have made these women to take it up so now I think we should definitely post it we should share it if you educate people why do you do it and how we do it and hopefully we would win does it worry you that when you're on social media and you're given being you kind of extend your person is there that sort of moral high-ground problem or do you think that wasn't any matters are just sort of vicarious into some other because like well I'm gonna go there it can be a moralist than their clothes divisions there are two different elements you know you if you if your issue with something is not the principles of what they've done but what they've done it penny or morally you know you should really worry about a lion veneer open suspicious if you Intel you immediate responses white horse come to kiss me wonder did animal that's not conservation house plus more looks if you thought grandstand on media without being a bit more you know that's the establishing your well especially their point of view no no but what if what I'm saying is for our shooters you know yeah we have science behind this what we do is conservation I might never pulled the trigger on something that might know them into one like mental wouldn't be no case a conservation is a message you guys are good not fear enough like that what I do is 100% conservation and the biologist by training I'm confident to what I'm doing Mizzou the law and I'm happy educating people and white we're doing a you just keep spraying into facts we're talking about social media here I don't know but social media is the platform to likely said you know it's not going your way get worse we just have to be we need to be educated ourselves and has to sell our sport and there was going to do it the right way that's my carry is he gonna get worse or is it gonna get better medium term absolutely who knows I don't think yes it's worse I think I think the clothes have said that people probably learn how to manage it better we still buy something the more you you moderate before change what you do to adapt to that as an organization we're still learning no it's was it really five six years old probably we've had to deal with it so we're still learning we're still find the platforms and then as manage it better than let us do the acquires button all those things but I don't think anybody in this room who tells well thanks but it's going to go in five years time well we're Instagram gonna go that's all people shouldn't sauce to go sweat so no thanks Edie months ago we have a world exporter in a bus who told us that Twitter with you gone as well words on social media so there's the honest answer we deal with what's in principles what we do the bus doing social media isn't the be-all and end-all so we've got the magazines or professional these is about the classical press work and cop TV emails to members and we think that of all those things we do we know you're running media arts based things are kind of narrowed down to being a single URL whatever they are 20 years ago fast and Countryside Alliance worker says no I don't want you to do anything we'll take over the whole thing that has changed you want people if people that I think people followed social media this week and took social media as the truth we wouldn't be here talking because they fail sports and lastly it's an echo chambers well I can think so it's an foj but perspective this massive step outside the bubble of those things I think five years ago basket of said oh it's it's the devil don't go there the world changes well little bit about respect I particularly like that word thank you very much like you know Al's cheerful way I highly recommend become a friend of our Facebook it's a good good way to learn about deer-stalking and if you are a member of ask you want to be things they go thank you good those jumpin out Gabriel carried you in and thank you very much indeed [Applause] please stay with me because if you like fishing we have I think arguably that stealth and your third generation really gets miss careful about the northern fly-fishing school greener and dog
