  1. Hi David, first of all, thank you for the fantastic video. If I could ask you just one question: a friend of mine, living there in japan told me that volunteering/working through workaway is illegal. They may arrest you too. Since I would not like spending much money with strange tour operators, I hope that you can tell me using workaway to go to Japan is fine. Thank you again

  2. Sorry, not good with computers, sorry I didn't get it all together in one:
On one hand workaway has said I'm too honest ( I have been a very good host, very considerate of a workaways wants and needs to the degree of meeting those over my own and my projects needs) and the other I'm doing so bad and too wrong to have a profile because I used the same introduction messege to many as an introduction to first see if they had interest in my work project before getting into more detailed specific conversation. Yet, they also offer hosts and workawayers template messeges set to be automatically sent! Finding this difficult when no warning given, no ill intent, told too honest in an email from workaway and their refusal to resolve.
This refusal has caused great loss and set back. I feel abandoned, hurt, and disappointed by them.
    Any help is appreciated
    Thank you

  3. I am requiring to speak with David Milward, a manager, supervisor, higher level Customer service personal, or current CEO, concerning a workaway issue I am not receiving cooperation in resolving, nor replies in resolving and would like to know how to proceed and where to go to address this when cooperation and regular channels are not made available. I would not want to have a host or volunteer behaving the way they have toward me, they have cost me so much in loss and have initially responded in a manner showing little care to someone relying on using their services. They cut my profile saying I was too honest and made myself vulnerable to harm from volunteers, then reinstated costing much time as my project was season and time sensitive. I have much damage control to do with those wondering why my profile was missing so I sent relevant appropriate copy pasted messeges to explain and then my profile was removed saying I copy pasted and sent spam…which I had to google to see what spam was I'm so computer unsavy ! I had many good volunteer prospect who respond asking where is my profile. I messege workaway asking to resolve this. They won't respond and ghost me! Then I have no choice but to do without volunteer and lose my house or copy paste a copy paste a copy of my profile ! And the very good volunteers I'd been messeging with who were making me offers of how they can help and wanting to come from Europe to stay with me….won't reply back as a result! I did have one bad volunteer that is can't review and others should know of and one new workawayer so kind and respectful who deserves a good review but I cannot provide either without use of my profile. It's been a horrible experience with workaway who I've turned to with delight as a last resort and I only want good workaway relationships and reviews. If anyone knows what would be good social media, travel or review sites to further detail my experience, please let me know. Thank you

  4. David, which hostels let you volunteer? I am hitting similar road blocks looking on workaway now.

  5. Wow, excellent information, as usual from you, truthful, current, to-the-point. You just saved me loads of time and frustration. Thank you.

  6. this video is so helpful thank you! I have a question: the visa application asks a lot of questions for the reference or guarantor where you are staying, does the place you are volunteering at give you this information or where do you get it ? thank you 🙂

  7. Nevermind found it! Thanks for this David. I always wondered why I’ve seen foreigners working in hostels. Now I know how it’s done. 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼💯💯💯💯

  8. I have heard of this before, but never really looked at it. Awesome detailed video mate, really enjoyed it! 😀

  9. Actually i have been looking for an Internship in Psychology, and there are'nt many not to say none. Any suggestions? I am currently finishing my PhD. Let me know!

  10. This is such an informative/interesting video! I heard about Workaway a year or so ago, and have always been interested in it.

Btw, this is a bit random and might be weird but I had a dream last night that I met you in New York and we filmed travel vlogs together lol. It was cool

  11. hi david,,,I,m sure this will help people looking to do workaway,,is there any Christmas activities at the hostel today

  12. If you think Japan is slow answering emails, you have never sent an email in NZ …. Been here 12yrs and still do not understand why they take so long to reply !! Have a great Christmas David and do not over do it with the KFC 😁😱😱

  13. Thank you! I actually was planning on getting my workaway profile today with this paycheck i just got, so this video LITERALLY couldnt have come at a better time. Thank you!

Im doing my workaway for New Orleans next month wish me luck!

  14. Very informative video. I went to the workaway website right after the Vlog was over! Tons of opportunities in Madrid I will look into . I just made the cut for my student work visa . I am 35 too. And we not old. lol later Brother

  15. Really informative! The style in your video is so good, your editing etc is fantastic! It annoys me how there is such a strict age limit on certain visas but at least you can manage some time there.

  16. Looking to a Workaway in Japan? Having problems like I did? How easy did you find the process?

Just to clarify, a WHV for Japan is either 12 or 6 months (extendable) depending on your nationality.

Tell me your Workaway experiences in the comments!
