January 14, 2013 French Aid Worker Food Dogma Overheard in West Africa at a French humanitarian
agency dinner. There is a group of approximately 15 French
persons and one American. It is nighttime on the veranda near the beach and dinner is
served. One man begins to serve wine to everyone. When he arrives to the American, she declines.
The Frenchman replies the Americans don’t know wine so they don’t drink it. The American girl flips out a little and stands
up to deliver the following tirade. Wow, yet another anti-American, chauvinistic
French comment. You are the best at everything and know everything.
Here we are in Africa trying to convince the Africans to eat different food, but listen
to you. The fake French baguettes on the table are
just shitty bread. So, I don’t eat it. I only eat good quality bread. The imported French wine on the table is just
shitty French wine. So, I don’t drink it. I only drink good quality wine. You are French and self identify as a baguette
eater and wine drinker. You do not care about the quality; you just want to have your baguette
and wine even if it shitty because you believe in your own cultural food ideology. You sit here thinking you are a superior European
while the uneducated, tribal Africans ravage the country and do not know how to eat different
food. You make anti-tribal comments.
You are dogmatic about food despite the quality. You believe in your superiority. Why are you different than the West Africans? The American then said fuck you all to the
silenced French people and went down stairs to eat with the African staff…yet again. Yes, she spoke French. PS
I saw crates of coca cola and orange fanta in the kitchen
