I actually heard about equip surrey-canada world use one of my friends had gone through one of their previous programs is that this is a really great organization you should look into it especially if you're looking into experience on the more practical side the youth livelihoods was something that I had a strong interest in I had worked in previous organizations that focused a lot on education and realized that there really needs to be a transition between getting these degrees and being able to utilize them in the workforce and how do we do that to build sustainable livelihoods for you we were ultimately filling a gap that's one thing I noticed in the across everything because all of our participants we're in that age where they're either coming out of a high school or university environment but that setting the academic setting didn't really set them up for professional success it had set them up to reach academic goals but not so much their professional career goals so equip house actually thought it was a really interesting environment to kind of facilitate that need from participants that wanted to know a little bit more about how to clean up their job skills how to be employable but also for entrepreneurs well I was the program advisor in Ghana and what that did was sort of going into year three see the design and implementation of a lot of different aspects of the project one of these was the Innovation Fund which provided seed capital for entrepreneurs to actually launch their businesses and I feel this is generally one of the most sustainable outcomes because it actually provides people who go through our trainings to not only practice the skill sets but realized their dreams of starting their own business and that for me I felt was the biggest difference that we made after a week being there we actually attended a graduation ceremony for the youth that had graduated from the program itself we saw all the families are so happy to be there celebrating the youth and everyone just had a great time as a party it really the impact the program had on these use and how much they had learned in such a short period of time equip UPS actually gave me the confidence I needed in order to believe in the skills that I already had I had been holding internship after internship for a very long time and it was in the role that I was playing his environmental sustainability officer in a developing nations that I realized I was coming in here as a subject matter expert it felt like I was adding value not only to the participants of the program but also to my peers in the program because they were learning something from me and I was also learning something from them when I came back home I took this energy and kind of like a newfound confidence in my skill and I actually started not applying for internship position but actually for full on research and analyst positions and I actually learned it a spot as a program manager I'm very lucky to be from Canada and have all these opportunities that I have here and the opportunity to volunteer and to help others isn't something that is necessarily available in each country so definitely that would be my great
