Daniel McCormick: Emerging Dancer 2018 Winner | English National Ballet

I got started in ballet because of my
sister, who’s also a dancer. Basically I’ve always been in the studio ever since I
was a baby with my mother, but one day when I was four, I saw a guy roll in on a
skateboard to the ballet studio and it struck me, and it was the first time that
I saw a male do that and it really interested me and I said to my mom, I
want to be that guy. For me I just want to make the audience feel the emotions that I feel while I’m on stage and if I can do that through as many means as I
can and as many ballets as I can, I feel like I have done my job and I just want
to get to a moment where I feel satisfied in myself. I think I feel a lot
of pride in myself which sometimes can be hard in normal life but I think when
you’re completely immersed in your art form and yourself as an artist, I think
it can be a little bit easier to feel pride in yourself and I think that’s
something that I really search for when I’m dancing.
