Gandhiji went Durban (S.Africa in 1883) to solve legal problems of Dada Abdullah Satyagrah was started in South Africa, later became popular in India. Gandhiji established ‘Natal Indian Congress’ and a newspaper ‘Indian Opinion’ in S.Africa. He established ‘Tolstoy Farm’ in South Africa which was a precursor of Ashrams of India. Gandhiji Returned India on 9 January 1915 He visited complete India in first year. CHAMPARAN SATYARAH 1917 Raj Kumar Shukla followed Gandhiji all over the country and persuade him to come to Champaran. Tinkathiya System: Farmers have to grow Indigo on 3/20 of his land. Government didn’t considered Gandhiji as rebel but considered what he was saying. Govt. appointed a commission to enquire problems faced by peasants and made Gandhiji its member. Satyagrah was successful; Farmers got 25% of loss back. Ahmedabad Mill Strike 1918 Workers of cotton mill were demanding plague bonus and increment in their wages. Ambalal Sarabhai was a friend of gandhiji. ‘If you are fihting against injustice then physical force is not necessary’ Strike was withdrawn in end and workers got increment in their wages as demanded by them. KHEDA SATYAGRAH 1918 crop failure and government was demanding revenue. Gujarat Sabha: Gandhi ji was president of it. Vallabh bhai Patel and Narhari Parikh In end Govt said the revenue is to be paid by those farmers only who are capable of giving it. Thank you
