BTS at the United Nations (Official Video)

As we go to the ending of the opening
panel, I wish to now call to the lectern a widely, very widely popular pop band
from South Korea the BTS. They have literally millions of followers around
the world and my youngest sister tried to stop me from coming today because she
wanted to come here instead of me to see BTS speak. I’m grateful to the UNICEF
Executive Director Ms Fore for making it possible for BTS who are recognized as
UNICEF’s goodwill ambassadors for the generation unlimited partnership to be
with us here today. The floor is yours. Thank You Mr. Secretary-General, UNICEF
Executive Director, and all the excellencies and distinguished guests
from across the world my name is Kim Namjoon also known as RM the leader of the group BTS. It is an incredible honor to be invited to an occasion with such
significance for today’s young generation. Last November BTS lunch at
the lump myself campaign would UNICEF building in our belief that shoe love
first begins with loving myself within partnering with UNICEF’s in violence
program to protect children and young people all over the world from violence
and our fans have become a major part of this campaign with their action and with
their enthusiasm which truly have the best fans in the world and I’d like to
begin by talking about myself I was born in his son a sin in your soul South
Korea it is a really beautiful place with a lake hills and even an annual
flower festival I spent a very happy childhood there and I was just an
ordinary boy I used to look up at the night sky wonder and I used to dream the
dreams of a boy I used to imagine that I was a superhero who could save the world and in an intro to one of our early
albums there’s a lion that says my heart stopped when I was maybe nine or ten
looking back I think that’s when I began to worry about what other people thought
of me and starting seeing myself through their eyes I stopped looking up at the
night skies the stars I stopped daydreaming instead I just
tried to jam myself into the moss that other people made soon I began to shut
out my own voice and started to listen to the voices of others no one called
out my name and neither did I my heart stopped and my eyes closed shut so like
this I we all lost our names we became like ghosts but I had one century and
that was music there was a small voice inside of me that said wake up man and
listen to yourself but it took me quite a long time to hear music color my real
name even after making the decision to join BTS there were a lot of hurdles
some people might not believe but most people thought we were hopeless and
sometimes I just wanted to quit but I think I was very lucky that I didn’t
give it all up and I’m sure that I and we will keep stumbling and falling like
this BTS has become artists performing in those huge stadiums and selling
millions of ailments right now but I am still an ordinary 24 year old guy if
there’s anything that I’ve achieved it was only possible that I have my other
BTS members right by my side and because of the love and the support that our
army fans all over the world me for us and maybe I made a mistake
yesterday but yesterday’s me is still me today I am Who I am with all of my
faults and my mistakes tomorrow I might be a tiny bit wiser and that’d be me too
these thoughts and mistakes are what I am making up the brightest stars in the
constellation of my life I have come to love myself for Who I am for who I was
and for who I hope to become I like to say the one last thing after releasing
our love yourself albums and launching the left myself campaign we started to
hear remarkable stories from our fans all over the world how our message
helped them overcome their hearts is in life and start loving themselves those
stories constantly remind us of our responsibility so let’s take all one
more step we have learned to love ourselves so now I urge you to speak
yourself I like to ask all of you what is your name what excites you and makes
your heart beat tell me your story I want to hear your voice I want to want
to hear your conviction no matter who you are where you from your skin color
your gender identity just speak yourself find your name and find your voice by
speaking yourself i’m kim namjoon and also our mo BTS I’m an idol and I’m an
artist from a small town in Korea like most people I’ve made many and plenty
mistakes in my I have many faults and I have many more
fears but I’m gonna embrace myself as hard as I chain and I’m starting to love
myself gradually just little by little what is your name
speak yourself thank you very much thank you very much with so many young
fans around the world it was a pleasure having BTS with us and I’m thankful that
you use your platform and creativity to reach young audiences with positive
messages about what it means to be a young person in the world today

  7. Beautiful, incredible speech that speaks TRUTH. This was so real, RM. Thank you, BTS and UN! 💜👏

  8. I don't think the BTS of 5 years ago would ever have imagined that they would be speaking at the UN someday, representing the voices of all of us young people in this world. I'm so proud of these 7 young men who are always motivating, always inspiring, and always humble💜

  9. This speech literally shook me. I have never been more proud to stan a group. Namjoon did a superb job in conveying their message. Just wow.

  10. Everyone is Army yeah 😍💜🧡
My biggest dream is to Meet them one day🤩🤩
Yeah I was in Kpop World before Knowing them 🤗
& I still stan some other Kpop groups
Because of their unique music & style
I came to know bts in early 2016 & My 1st Bias was V 😍
They Helped me in one crucial moment
With their song spring day 👍🧡
They are funny + kind + influential+ Their Style in music is so good + the lyrics is their songs are so unique & meaningful ..
All those made me want to Meet them one day so badly even I find it ( missing impossible )
    But Still have a 0.01% hope that I can💜💜

  11. i was hoping he talks more about the team than himself. but still, it is beautiful and such a honourable speech!!
i'm not an army, but this makes me proud of them. not only because they become the ambassador, but also because how much they came so far. it's like when you feel proud of your sister's children sincerely help their sad friend.
sorry for my bad english 😅

  12. I am so thankful to have discovered such a talented and deeply loving family BTS had created within the boarders of their music and their relationship with each other. I loved RM's speech and the message that this group has tried to share and embed in the hearts of others. This message that they have been working on has truly helped me become more myself than I could have tried for myself. I am learning to love myself more and more each day because I agree with the opinion that to experience a full embrace of true love, I must learn to love myself. And their message and songs have helped me on the journey to speak for myself and to love myself. Thank you BTS.

  13. So maybe they are just "another boy band", but I actually view them as a hope for international relations for this new, connected generation. It took 2018's use and connectivity of youtube, twitter, tumblr, instagram etc. at its ultimate peak, for a group with non-western roots to connect a diverse range and multitude of enthusiastic fans. At this point, armys from China, to Korea to Japan, to India, to the U.K to Turkey to everywhere, will listen to what they have to say. And I'm glad they do have something to say. Get up, and speak for yourself! If you can, participate in democracy. If you can, spread messages of good will. Make a promise, that when it comes our time to determine the future of this world, our generation will not fail like the ones before us. It has never been more crucial. So in 50 years, when they observe the history of the youth of this fast-changing decade, they will mention the BTS phenomenon as being an international and cultural bridge.

  14. My name is Hannah Pham. Ever since I know about BTS and had receive their message… I'm improving bit by bit. Thank you BTS. I'm proud of you and I hope you're proud of me too 🙂

  17. Namjoon's speech is rallying, thought provoking, Motivating! Thank you for giving them a chance to address the youth. BTS started in 2013 with No More Dream song to Love Yourself and now #SpeakYourself Support #Youth2030 #GenerationUnlimited

  23. My dear rm i really like your speak 😇😇😇😇😇😍😍😍💋💋💋 who like rm comon hit the like button

  24. damn this is my dream job, to work at the UN has been my goal since I was 5. Knowing that they work with them makes me want to work harder to get there.

  25. But he just spoke about himself. There is a whole band behind him. Plus, there’s no “I” in the UN conferences if you are talking about what should be done to solve the problem. However, they were pretty good.

  26. Hello ARMY! I'm so sorry for interrupting you, but the United Nation needs US to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030🌏 why don't we as the biggest fandom help to contribute? The Smeraldo Project (@smeraldoproject on instagram) will launch soon, don't forget to check it out!💚 Love, ARMY
