HIS DECISION TO SHUTDOWN THE MARKET FOR TWO WEEKS CAME BECAUSE HE SAID THERE WAS A PREVELANCE OF FIREARMS AT THE MARKET CAUSING A FEARFUL AND THREATENING ATMOSPHERE. IN THE MEANTIME, COMMUNITY GROUPS HAVE SUPPORTED POP- UP MARKETS IN ORDER TO GIVE VENDORS A CHANCE TO STILL SELL THEIR GOODS. AND DESPITE SOME CALLS FOR THE MARKET TO BE SHUT DOWN THE REST OF THE SEASON… MAYOR HAMILTON RELEASED A VIDEO STATEMENT ABOUT THE REOPENING… IN WHICH HE SAYS THE COMMUNITY MUST STAND TOGETHER AGAINST THE ATTACKS ON AMERICA FROM WHITE NATIONALIST TERRORISM.
