adoboLIVE! National Artist BenCab on fighting Fascism with art

Hi, I’m Ben Caberera National Artist for Visual Arts I like to explore new art mediums But I love to draw so I always do drawings and perhaps I’ll go back to my etchings but so far I think I explore a lot of like sculptures since my background is I used to work for magazine also and I’m exposed to journalist and that kind of exposure helps me express it in my paintings With this, the new Duterte regime I tried to portray the kidding with impunity I think that the main issue really is Human Rights So we want borders on that Well we’ve We’ve done a lot of that earlier on like when establishing Tam-Awan Village where the young artist have a venue for their work Well we also here in Baguio started the Baguio Arts Guild and we were really very active then giving workshops, things like that I guess my work can be easily related to with a lot of people because it’s more on Humanism People can relate to my work because I portray the humanistic side of people The continuous success I would think based on my subject of Humanism and it’s also narrative My work is narrative and people can relate to that It’s kind of a story Like you said I need the OFW A lot of Filipinos can relate to that Actually I did a good series of disasters Earthquake here in Baguio which I experienced in 1990 I portray people who get affected whether you’re poor or rich So it covers a lot of areas Right now we have a group exhibit here I’ve been in Baguio since 1985 and ask Baguio artists to join me, join us to “Baguio in my Mind” They did portray their feelings for Baguio
