A Day Volunteering with an Equine Vet

A Day Volunteering with an Equine Vet

hey guys so today I am out with a large animal vet her name is dr. Fulton she is an equine vet but we also see cattle and goats so today I think on our schedule I think it's up there on her – we're seeing a few horses mostly horses today I think there is a sick goat so we'll see about that of course every animal that you're gonna see in this video I have axed their owner care taker whomever for permission so I'm just in a car and we're gonna see what we're waiting on well I'm waiting on dr. Fulton again the car cuz I don't drive her technician is actually out of town today so it's just me and her so I'm riding up front and we're going around of course large animal vets usually go out we do have a stable so there will be some people she has a clinic and she has a stall on everything so you will see some things at her place but for right now early in the morning we're about to head out so yeah also large animal is that what interests me I like small animals I do a lot animals horses are not my thing but you know vet school we gotta learn all I have learned a dog the cat the horse to count the pig the goats sheep chicken Pig I think I said Pig I'm not sure but so as I've learned after completing you know my first year in Grenada even though I don't want to do horses in the long run it really helps doing it so here we go Brad to get this show on the road wait but now today she looks like she's favoring it but I wouldn't call it a real pronounced limp Aussie taste when there's a crowd of people and that's the one Oh yeah he's limping on that way yeah I don't have a lot of large animal experience I have more small like clinical yeah this helps in school you can actually see the uzi here to it and our goal is to give it an out and relax when he got it he was absolutely so you can try less but I tell you what he's all excited when you kids go ahead and get the little thing then peace mellow we're all good about it I don't see anything wrong with this okay okay so we just cleaned his penis off and then with her we do so these are the two we were seeing at this place you okay so this next place that we're at were tricking our horses I but the doctor dr. Fulton she's trying to see where the owner is so that we can actually drive down to where the horses are so yeah Oh in the shade now I what if she wants us to or not let again comes in threes yeah that is on this backside sir precious and difficult to do so you unfortunately will see me a lot fluorescein is best put in full strength see the edge of the green stain over there you just needed that white in a little the green yeah that's like almost an abscess on the eye so whatever you poked into bacteria in with it but we have one thing going for it you see how close she is to the edge of the eye if people grow blood vessels in there to help fight that infection it will help us so we're going to I'm going to go we have the treats great so most the times when you treat that I treats the surface of the eye we need something that'll go deeper than that so decide this antibiotic is known to go into layers of you like to get deeper so I'm gonna give you some stuff for I pain too because even citator they have I gets injured it's got little muscles on the eyelid that spasm can cause a lot of pain and then they slam that people shot and that drug takes care of both of those things the atropine I'm not gonna scare you with big box let's have smoked their mouths are like their mother what are they I don't have a picture if you thought that I is actually like really pretty bad um she's actually gonna have to come at me cook so there's pus down in the eyes like abscess in the eye that has pretty bad to treat so she's writing up a medicine he needs to get over to County to I'm just kind of cleaning up the truck while she finishes up and everything because there's different compartments for truck and everything out on the large animals mark so yep and then we'll be on to the next one I don't know where we're going next [Applause] so now we're back at dr. Fulton of it's like actual place so this is her little barn stable and so we have actually someone coming in to follicle check and pregnancy check their two mares so that's what's happening now [Applause] I know they're not as much as when she was little she said none to unplug the machine now little Colt he's kinda crazy he's with a lady he's getting an independent guys no baby I see it right there yeah she's just ovulated – OH even Ockham's hurting him in there I said little bitty baby okay so it's thinking great mayor they were up to follicle check her as opposed to that first big brown one they were pregnancy checking her and she wasn't pregnant um so the great when they brought the follicle check her to see if her follicles are at the right size and time to greet her meanwhile they sent me out here to catch this horse but you know I don't how – okay she went way over there so Brittany the best Oh way over there boy that horse obviously does not want to be caught and I am not lovable I'm not something was was approaching a horse like that so the only reason she wants me to bring it in is because it's hot so ask them what does she want me to do since she won't commit so to be continued I think I hear the sick goat which is the next appointment but I'm walking to put this fleet robic now they said just leave her out here she's what has been having yeah so what we're gonna do is send blood work off again and see if they're getting changes better work same get that dermal meniscus right where it needs to be so see the second line yeah there's much poop rename I just need covered see yeah exactly so what does this do it's gonna do it in it yeah and you can actually do counts that's cool yeah so it's like yes you have or no you don't have but with the livestock it's all about about how much do you have and that's where it's important there's a little grid down in there that you if you can see it through that my person to see what look can you see them all group you had a little grid on it yeah and so that's our counting chamber and we count how many eggs we have in each one and we multiply by 25 and that gives us our magic number I mean it still is so now we have an emergency and so we're headed out to this course that has colic which is an emergency in horses so when they have stasis and their GI tract can can have gas buildup food buildup but it's not good because the horses GI tract should always be moving rabbits too and guinea pigs in case you didn't know that bump at because I work with rabbits and guinea pigs at my normal job so we're going there we're gonna redo their rescheduling their other appointments for tomorrow and we might have one more back here so right now we're headed back into the truck to head out to the colleague he was actually not colleague she thinks it's long so I get to listen to he just had it takes a great big so this is the antibiotic we give it today okay I'll stand right in front case he bolts forward you got that baby okay I didn't want you if you jumped he ran over you with the baby and then attach my Spurs on well epi the epinephrine is real thick which I have to do myself so I already know so now we put that place that had the horse with upper respiratory infection we gave it drugs so we have one more back home and I said for today I'm so sleepy I don't know why we have learnt and I might dead right now so so we're headed back to her actual practice we have one lady coming in I think just for vaccines and that's it so we're almost done here well they the last appointment never showed up so I am going home I mean I only I stayed for 45 minutes after the time was up so that's one then they said maybe they forgot or whatever so now I'm off going home I'm actually gonna get a slushy which have you seen any of my other line videos I love these Pacific slushies and I am on my three-week countdown so I go back to Grenada so I need to drink as many slushies as I possibly can before I am back on a flight down to the Caribbean so that was pretty much my day at the large-animal vet as a volunteer I've seen other things I've actually got to do cooler things but um today's my last day doing it this summer unless I can find another day to do it but I might have another one over Christmas maybe I'll get a small animal video look with my manager and everybody's okay with that but if not hope you enjoy this video and see you next time you
